Weska – Mudcat [Truesoul]
Canadian DJ/producer Weska forges yet deeper links with Adam Beyer, as his two-tracker EP ‘Mudcat’ is welcomed by Drumcode’s more melodic sibling Truesoul. His first solo EP after collaborations with Bart Skils (3 x on Drumcode) and Oscar L on Truesoul explores a more indie, melodic side to his signature stance bridging groove-driven techno and heavy progressive house and further boosts his status in the industry. Weska has also released on techno strongholds Filth on Acid, Cocoon, Factory 93…, as well as revered imprints REALM, Nervous and Armada; remixed Sven Väth; and launched his own imprint HYPERWAX.
‘Yeah’: faster, bounding beats, and more melodic content with sustained chords reminiscent of 80s synth/Visage. Abrupt vocal stabs and doppler FX ‘siren’ sounds rising and falling make an intriguing slice of techno dance fuel. ‘’Yeah’ came together in just a few hours. The vocal stabs on the downbeat inspired the rest of the call and response, and the snappy snare added an indie disco feel’. ‘Mudcat’: the title track delivers a relentless hypnotic vibe, multiple breakdowns and drops keeping ravers hooked, ominous hoover sounds punctuated with melodic chord stabs. ‘When I initially created this EP, my goal was to produce some upbeat party tracks. ‘Mudcat’ started out when I discovered a kick with an 80’s vibe that I really liked. Combined with the offbeat bass and vocal sample, everything else fell into place. Adding a suspenseful synth that rose and fell throughout the track gave it the energetic vibe I was aiming for.’
