Waterworks Festival, A Brand New Electronic Music Experience Debuts in West London, Saturday September 25th 2021
Waterworks Festival is a brand new electronic music experience which will debut in West London on Saturday September 25th 2021.
The brainchild of a group of friends and electronic music devotees including the founders of Percolate and Love International; Waterworks has been devised in a bid to create a totally unique offering for the capital. For one day only, a vibrant party will bring together the diverse talent that forms the foundation of London’s underground music scene, unconfined by genre or stature.
The most promising rising stars rub shoulders with an array of the deepest diggers in the game and, with no headliners billed, all sets are given freedom to shine across the day. The musical offering unites an array of dance music royalty and exciting new talent, a blend of both DJ sets and live acts. Boasting some of the most revered selectors in electronic music, Waterworks will not identify headliners, instead giving each artist equal weight on the billing.
Revered selectors such as Craig Richards, Ben UFO, Shanti Celeste and more contribute to an eye-catching DJ roster that includes Midland, Call Super, Eris Drew, and FAUZIA, as well as featuring creative choices such as Novelist. Objekt, Krywald & Farrer, Body Hammer, Call Super and Saoirse.
Team Waterworks says: “After the double disappointment in 2020 of COVID-19 and losing our chosen site we agreed that we would not bring Waterworks back unless we could source a location that would allow us to improve on the offering that we had before, nothing about it could feel like a step back. After visiting multiple sites and what feels like hundreds of hours of research we finally discovered a remote location inside Gunnersbury Park. Enclosed by 360 degrees of foliage this semi woodland area is overshadowed by infrastructure, juxtaposing nature and industry beautifully.
We are working exclusively alongside a seasoned sound design team, employing technology never used in London before so we can deliver the sensory experience that proper dance music deserves; unparallelled in London. We will create intimate and architecturally intriguing open-air spaces built from the ground up, which will meld with the surroundings. We will form unique dancefloors – somewhere to lose yourself in the moment.
Musically, we are focusing on some of the different flavours, strands and genres of dance music that have come to shape the rich musical heritage of London. This sonic palette stretches from the weirder sounds of Yu Su and Cõvco to the energy of younger artists like Sicaria Sound and Anz, to the gritty lyricism of Novelist. We want to pay homage to scene veterans like Craig Richards and Mala, while also showcasing the current stalwarts of the scene like Ben UFO, Saoirse, Objekt and Shanti Celeste. Finally, we want to invite a few international guests from our extended friends and family who we feel are masters of their field bringing something exceptional, such as Eris Drew, Nicolas Lutz and Job Jobse.
Importantly – this will NOT be dominated by ‘headliners’, but a lineup that is greater than the sum of its parts, made from artists that we know and trust to deliver the same care and attention with their sets as we will with the production. We also use our influence to help provide a platform for the younger artists that we are really excited about with set times that you might usually find for a headline act. We want to build a festival that our mates would come to but also for dance music lovers, young or old.”
