Sam Dexter – Get Down Boy [Glasgow Underground]
Sam Dexter‘s “Feel Like New” is one of my favourite disco grooves from recent times. He’s also the A&R responsible for signing Andrew Meller’s absolutely monstrous re-working of “Born Slippy” to Glasgow Underground.
As if that wasn’t enough, with his own Hungarian Hot Wax imprint, he is building a super cool deep house following that includes the likes of B Traits, Maya Jane Coles and Nicole Moudaber. Since he played me “Feel Like New” (and then wouldn’t let me sign it!) I’ve been trying to get him to do something for the label. Finally, after we spent far too long in Vodka Revolution in his home town, he agreed.
“Get Down Boy” is the result. If you like Mella Dee and Alex Virgo them this slice of jacked-up Italo goodness will be right up your street. And if you’re looking for something to connect it to the deep house he has been working today, “The Groove” is just that, a sweet low-slung bumping house jam.
