KLP – Never Let Me Down [Medium Rare]
Sydney’s DJ/producer/songwriter/vocalist KLP drops a second taste of southern hemisphere heat from her upcoming EP ‘Alter’, via superfast single ‘Never Let Me Down’, out April 26th.
Previous EP single, a blast of high-energy, muscular house with a summery 90s vibe ‘Symphony’ already bagged support from Mixmag, SiriusXM, Triple J… KLP trails platinum records, ARIA Award noms and Aussie fans galore, in her ongoing incursion northwards via Skrillex, Loods and Airwolf collabs, and releases on MOS, Ultra and Warner Music.
‘Never Let Me Down’: a hyperspeed house invasion of pitch-shifted vocal, hissy hihats, assertive piano stabs and big boots beat, with a nod to the days when no jam went un-pumped. Roofs will be raised far and wide, you have been warned.
‘’Never Let Me Down’ started when I was playing with slowing a vocal to record, then speeding and pitching everything back up. I had the acapella and a rough demo when I was in Melbourne in the studio with my friend Airwolf Paradise,’ KLP says. ‘We quickly built up the track from there and it was done in a few hours. It just came together and worked.’
EP ‘Alter’, on Sydney-based imprint Medium Rare Recordings, has three other killers on board; two more frantic dance cuts – grand synth chords vs hypnotic vocal on ‘Vitamin’, piano chords meet pluck-y percussion on ‘Come Thru’ – while ‘I Know’ is still rampant but with a slower, very sensual vocal and lyrics.
