DRUMSHEDS SS24: The Countdown Begins
Building on a massive debut season last year, DRUMSHEDS is back. Broadwick Live (the team behind DRUMSHEDS, Printworks, Field Day etc) have been successful in their mission to bring a new, audience-first live experience to North London, hosting a trailblazing opening season of 14 reputable shows. Now, the countdown is on until DRUMSHEDS opens its doors for it’s second season with ten shows, raising the bar once again with globally revered names including Chase And Status, The Hydra, Drumcode, Meduza and James Hype Present Our House, Radio 1 Dance, Amelie Lens’ EXHALE, Craig David’s TS5, Recess, False Idols, and Ten Years Of Worried About Henry. All set in a mighty 608,000sq ft warehouse, three club rooms, and with a 15,000 capacity, DRUMSHEDS promises to host the most impressive talent the capital will see across 2024.
Starting the season strong on the 23rd of February with a sold-out live show, DRUMSHEDS welcomes Chase and Status. Championing a sound truly synonymous with the UK, the dance music duo have been making noise since the early 2000s with notable features such as Kano and Plan B they are well in demand beyond the underground. Ahead of their BRITS Nomination for ‘Best Act’, this show is set to be a sentiment to their works to date alongside some special guests to grace X Room.
Next up on March 2nd, described as the “capital’s black nightlife architects,” Recess are in the building for what will be their largest show to date. Growing organically from sold-out party to sold-out party, Recess have been immutable in bringing cutting-edge production and concepts to life. Going beyond London, their brand has taken off around the globe, with one-off parties in locations from Arcca to Ibiza. Sonically the team curates a multitude of selectors, spanning all genres such as Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Amapiano and Afrobeats which will soundtrack DRUMSHEDS for this very special affair. Taking the world by storm, label and event series Drumcode will be making its long-awaited return to London, for their largest show to date on UK soil. Established by mastermind Adam Beyer in 1996, Drumcode has been a household name in the techno realm since its inception with international recognition and success in their releases, talent scouting and radio efforts. With takeovers at institutions such as Gashouder, Awakenings and Tobacco Dock, their ability to programme some of the leading names in techno will be demonstrated on the 9th of March with names such as Kölsch, Layton Giodarni, Rebūke and Stephan Bodzin [live]. Leading London electronic music festival Junction 2 will takeover of the Y Room with melodic dance music stalwarts Yotto, Parra for Cuva [live], Woo York [live] and more.Y
Always a finger on the pulse, and one step ahead Radio 1 Dance takes over on the 29th of March. The Radio 1 spin-off station was launched in 2020 born out of the desire to report and highlight Britain’s long-standing connection to dance music and marry the station more solely to the underground genre. Since 1993, ‘The Essential Mix’ hosted by Pete Tong has been a stupendous platform honing in on some of the finest talent from around the world. Circling around this, the day-into-night party at DRUMSHEDS will celebrate Radio 1’s legacy by bringing together fan favourites Above and Beyond, Ben Hemsley, Charlie Hedges, Danny Howard, Eats Everything, Jaguar, Pete Tong and many more.
The Hydra’s return to DRUMSHEDS for its second time,is set to be a show-stopper. They team up with long-term collaborator Bonobo to present his concept Outlier, featuring a weighty selection of names from the left-leaning underground who’ll bounce from bass and jungle to house and techno. On board for this one are DJ Koze, Kerri Chandler b2b DJ Tennis, Mall Grab b2b salute, Dan Shake, Tash LC and more.
A true highlight standing with pride since their very first show in AW23, False Idols are back for round 2 on the 13th of April. The team behind Little Gay Brother, Percolate and Broadwick Live cooked up a delectable array of talent for the first season featuring none other than nostalgic icons, the Sugababes. The new party promises to evolve the club landscape, inclusivity and of course doing so in style. A place where everyone can find their tribe on the dancefloor. Liberation is only a beat away. DnB, jungle, bass and high-energy sounds will always be a key part of the DRUMSHEDS billing. Another stand-out on the 2024 programme will be Worried About Henry marking a decade of bass driven music. DRUMSHEDS will host a party that can’t be missed featuring label friends and family – including Wilkinson, Skepsis, Shy FX, Flava D, K Motionz, Gentlemans Dub Club, and plenty more guests to celebrate the decade benchmark.
Other names joining the billing include Craig David’s TS5 indoor festival which boasts a lineup featuring OG names and fresh talent from garage and house crossover worlds. The chart-topper who needs no introduction, has been captivating audiences with his soulful vocals across RnB and more since his rise to fame in the garage era. Alongside the show stopper himself, the festival will feature other pop sensations such as multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and songwriter Jax Jones who has been behind some of the world’s biggest dance hits. Ella Henderson, Nathan Dawe and many more also join, iconic Ibiza-based club brand Ibiza Rocks hosts the second space with a crew of residents in tow.
Techno icon Amelie Lens will bring her revered EXHALE brand to DRUMSHEDS, promising to be a solid day of high-intensity techno featuring some of the hardest hittest names from the genre including VTSS, IMOGEN, Dax J b2b SPFDJ, Ellen Allien and more. Homed in the industrial warehouse space, this will be an all-killer, no-filler day that should not be missed for any techno aficionados.
Another new edition to the DRUMSHEDS proceedings will be dance music mainstays DJs Meduza and James Hype with their collaborative Our House party, which will unite leading names from the electronic world to DRUMSHEDS with Mistajam, Todd Terry, Boys Noize, Melle Brown, Oden & Fatzo and plenty more. This will be the grandest Our House to date, bringing thousands of ravers together.
