Printworks Closing – line ups for final four parties confirmed
After six mighty years as an institution in London’s cultural patchwork, Printworks London prepares to close its doors with a final run of shows from April 28th to May 1st 2023. To mark the end of the space as we know it, the final Printworks’ Closing Weekend events represent its mighty history – a nod to the labels, crews, collectives, DJs, live acts, artists, and more that have called Printworks home since 2017. The entire weekend features artists who have not been a part of the final SS23 season, including two huge venue debuts from Black Coffee and Camelphat.
The last chance to experience the quality production, the finest sonic explorations and the unmatched atmosphere; each show will represent a different strand of Printworks personality – joining the dots from techno to melodic house, and disco to bass across this final weekender in the old printing factory.
First up, on Friday is a heavy line up bringing in plenty of house with a soulful and global touch, featuring the one and only Black Coffee who plays at Printworks for the very first time. The globally acclaimed South African artist who has captured the electronic music world with his take on deep, grooving house, and will have his set streamed live as a Radio1 Essential mix. Maya Jane Coles also plays, plus AMÉMÉ – the rising afro-house prodigy and ‘One-Tribe’ founder pushing the boundaries of music, fashion and art. BBC Radio 1 Dance will be a part of the event, bringing a host of talent including Danny Howard, Sarah Story, rising 1xtra selector Jeremiah Asiamah and plenty more across the show.
Saturday’s line up is on a melodic tip, as Printworks invite leading names from the movement to its space for a special send off. Heading up proceedings are the iconic Camelphat, who will make a long-awaited Printworks performance debut after recording their revered Essential Mix in the space. The duo making dynamic, enchanting and entrancing house music will finally bring their sound to the old printing factory. Legend of the scene Stephan Bodzin will play a live show, plus Adriatique, the revered Swiss duo making deep, grooving techno are also in. On top of this, there’s Mind Against – exploring the intersection of IDM, house and techno, plus Jimi Jules, Carlita, Cassian, Francesca Lombardo, Ivory and more regulars from the world.
Sunday of the Printworks closing weekend sees the tempo upped a notch as DnB, bass, jungle, garage, and angular sounds take over with 20+ artists set to play across the two Printworks spaces. A super special guest will be announced; a leader of the scene who has shaped the DnB genre since day dot. There’ll be Sub Focus & Dimension & MC ID, Kings Of The Rollers & Inja repping for DnB and jungle flavours, bassline, garage, and heavy cuts from TQD, p-rallel, MJ Cole, Elijah & Skilliam, 24 Hour Garage Girls, Mixtress and more. And of course, Saturday sees a host of MCs on board to add the extra energy levels to this closing show.
The grand finale on Monday sees members from Printworks’ extended artist fam set to play house, techno, IDM, breaks and more live acts as the final artists to play in Printworks industrial space.
Monday’s special guest is a force in the underground electronic movement; giants who have pioneered what our scene is today, as well as growing alongside Printworks as an integral part of the venue’s journey. The rest of the bill is also mighty; with Peggy Gou, Dixon, DJ Koze, HAAi, TSHA, Prospa all set to play, and Róisín Murphy on board to deliver an extremely unique live PA. Bass, breaks and left-leaning electronic oddities and obscurities come from SHERELLE & I. JORDAN, Ahadadream, Shy One, Swoose, Trudy Knight, Jennifer Loveless and more. Many selectors who have been a formative in the Printworks’ history over these past seven years.
The Closing Weekend at Printworks is an opportunity for us to represent musically what the space has meant to so many people during the last six years. We’re looking forward to celebrating Printworks’ legacy, and what has been the venue’s role as a cultural stronghold for the electronic music community including artists, labels, DJs, live acts, visual artists and more. Ajay Jayaram – Director Of Music, Broadwick Live
Printworks as a cultural institution has impacted London, the UK and even further afield in its time. It has been a rare opportunity to unite the music community on such a grand scale, creating a real, meaningful and long-lasting community that extends further than the venue’s walls. Printworks’ legacy has been cemented, and will live on long into the future. Matthew Johnston- Director Of Entertainment, Broadwick Live
Since opening its doors in 2017, Printworks London has grown to become an iconic space for culture in London, welcoming over a million guests across six years. This marks the end of an incredible set of years since Broadwick Live first opened Printworks London in February 2017. Once home to the largest printing factory in Western Europe, the original aesthetics, giant machines and printing presses were preserved to create a stunning, industrial environment in which to present its award-winning music programme and set piece events.
