The Course – Ready Or Not (BEC Remixes) [Altra Moda]
Ready to take things up a notch across dancefloors this summer, Brighton-born, Berlin-based techno producer Rebecca Godfrey, AKA BEC, drops two undeniably huge reworks of 90s Dutch dance ‘The Course‘ and their debut 1997 single ‘Ready Or Not‘, which sampled the truly iconic 1996 ‘The Fugees’ original.
Brighton-born Rebecca Godfrey, AKA BEC, has been crafting deep, titanic techno in Berlin for the past few years and has rapidly garnered attention and acclaim. After Pan-Pot’s Second State imprint released her debut EP, industry heavyweights Carl Cox and Adam Beyer quickly snapped her up for their respective labels – Intec and Drumcode.
The first is a raw and rave edged Techno cut, with an outstanding piano stab present during and after the first drop, high-impact hats workout that seizes listeners attention with heavy kicks. The second remix has many influences from the UK Jungle and the BreakBeats. BEC wanted to use the vocal sample for almost the entire duration of the remix with the help of filters to blend it to the fullest. There is also an arpeggio in the background that gives a techno note to the remix. The tracks differ radically but are strung together with a sense of excitement embedded in their polyrhythmic drum patterns and dynamic arrangement.
