Tau0n’s Party Playlist
Tauon is the fusion of the multidisciplinary artistic skills of Anais and Scott. Elements of creative writing, theatre, and music blend together, along with the love of all things science fiction and surreal, to create an idiosyncratic listening experience to sooth your most fantastical, psychedelic urges. Their music transcends dimensions and weaves through time. Delicious sounds embrace the body in ecstatic exclamation while words observe the feelings of otherness in an unfamiliar world. Particles and molecules reverberate at the mouth-watering textures and uncanny flavours juxtaposed. Sounds dance in such a way that will salivate the aural palate of any celestial creature.
JTJ Feat. Bubblewrappe – Rabe Mom [Vile Music] Rave Mom is JTJ and Bubblewrappe’s newest slapper. It really hits the nostalgic feeling of being at the best kind of rave; really encapsulating that main stage banger experience. It delves into some really hectic electro synth screams but doesn’t sacrifice any of the classic JTJ groovy vibes. I can’t wait to play this out when the sunsets and the lasers start going out of control at the very next time we can all get weird together.
Niles Shepard Feat MISS DRE – Follow Me [Slothacid] “Follow Me” from Niles Shepard and MISS DRE was stuck in my head for a solid few weeks after I got the promo. It brings a completely modern take on the French house style that was just so freaking good back in the early 2010s. It just really is so seamless and funky, you can rinse it out on repeat all day and not get bored. Needless to say, this song is going to be crushing dance floors for my children’s children’s children.
Rival Consoles – Articulation [Erased Tapes] Rival Consoles have always been a huge influence to me since I first heard “Night Melody,” and their newest release “Articulation” just takes it up a notch. It’s really one of the most beautiful pieces of sound design I’ve heard this year. It reminds me of those nights standing out in the desert under the lights with the cool wind blowing through your hair. In a time with so much uncertainty and stress, the tune “Articulation” really helps me feel peaceful. And honestly, check out the whole album – it’ll take you somewhere else, I promise you that.
Sammy legs & Sam Drank – Anyways [Inquiry Records] First of all guys, “anyways” isn’t the correct grammatical use of the word, it’s anyway! C’mon guys. But anyway, pretty much anything from Sammy Legs will always go in my sets and this collab with Sam Drank is such a late night, get physical and lose yourself in your body kind of heater. I’ve been rinsing this out while quarantining and it’s just, yeah, no words. Just go listen to it, seriously.
Sacha Robotti – Undulate [Slothacid] Sacha Robotti, the man, the myth, the legend. I have to put this track up here because when I heard it I just had to remix it. So you know, maybe go check out the tau0n remix as well. But I digress, this tune f**king slaps no matter what time of day. It makes you move your body and slams you right in the chest. The call and response between the vocal and the bass just sits so nice it makes you want to undulate.
Karim Alkharat & Who Is Hush – Kontrol [Voltage Records] Who is Hush and Karim Alkhayat get really trippy on “Kontrol.” I’ve been playing Kontrol out as much as I can when the vibe is dark and people want that head rush. It doesn’t get much better than distorted percussion and repetitive techno arpeggios that warp into absolute screaming sounds capes. Dirty, dark warehouse vibes are the best kind of vibes, so join me and let’s get down and dirty to this one.
TWR72 – Mom [TWR72] The sensation of walking into a techno club with that driving beat that just doesn’t stop. It’s sweaty, it’s heavy, it feels like it’s never going to end and you honestly don’t want it to. That’s “Mom” by TWR72, it’s truly hypnotic without sacrificing on the brutality. The kind of tune that the body just finds itself naturally moving to and your ears aren’t quite sure what you’re listening to. Oh man, it’s really something else and I can’t wait to hear this one played big and loud on a big set of club speakers.
Oliver Winters – Bending Of Light [Oddity Records] Oliver Winters has been a staple in my arsenal for a while now and “Bending of Light” is such a great example of why. His shifting sensual melodies combined with acid bass and techno grooves just really take the genre ten levels above where it already is. The song is so beautiful and yet so heavy and groovy, it’s something I aspire towards. Don’t sleep on Oliver, he’s already changing the game.
Robag Wruhme – Topinambur [Global Underground] When John Tejada turned me onto Robag Wruhme earlier this year I felt like I had been let in on a secret arsenal of absolute slammers. Honestly, every one of Robag’s tunes just is next level, but “Topinambur” is just such a versatile song. It can fit in a dark late night techno set, a midday house set, I bet it would even work with some French disco. The incessant bass groove paired with impeccable modulation just makes me depressed because I wish I could make something this f**king dope. Seriously man, Robag Wruhme – if you read this, you make me feel bad about myself because your tunes are so dope.
Tau0n – Like A Stone [Slothacid] Being a huge fan of super dark techno, “Like a Stone” was actually the first track we produced for the tau0n EP on Slothacid. It has a special place in my heart as being that thing that spurred the vibe. It really sinks its teeth into you and takes you on a journey. It jumps between excruciating jet engine sounds to groovy techno beats and that’s really what music is all about to me. It should evoke a visceral feeling that makes you want more and more until you’re overstuffed. I would say that all the tracks on this list will definitely fill you up if you’re hungry for music.
