New Croydon venue Phase have revealed its December schedule, with the club and arts space confirmed to officially open on Friday 6th December.
Its varied programme will see ‘Wave‘ Friday’s host a range of talent across UK bass, rap & garage to celebrate Croydon’s rich musical heritage, with Barely Legal set to play the opening party alongside a very special guest who is still to be announced. BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target and Reece Parkinson are confirmed, plus UK funky pioneers Champion and Crazy Cousinz, while London selector Oneman is locked in for a four hour set on Friday 27th December.
Saturday’s will be house & techno leaning, bringing international artists together with homegrown talent in Phase’s brand new club space with the very best production. House music legends Roger Sanchez and The Shapeshifters are confirmed to appear during the opening month, with the disco sounds of Natasha Kitty Kat lighting up the festive season. &Friends label boss Monki is also set to appear alongside a slew of rising talents such as Elliot Adamson, Ben Sterling and Bontan.
Midweek events will celebrate all things live, with Phase welcoming the very best from the worlds of comedy, cabaret, and music. So far the December schedule sees the alter-ego of Alexis Dubus, Marcel Lucont, bring his popular Cabaret Fantastique show to Croydon, with Jazz represented by prominent young trumpet player Mark Kavuma and the Banger Factory curating a series of shows.
The London African Gospel Choir will present their lauded interpretation of Paul Simon’s Graceland on Thursday 19th December, having sold out shows on the east coast of the States where they made a powerful impact on the public. The choir have previously performed with stars such as Emile Sande, Mumford & Sons, Tom Jones and the Soweto Gospel Choir, boasting a diverse membership and that includes secular songs with a positive message. Elsewhere, December’s Christmas Comedy showcase will see Terry Alderton on the bill, where he’ll desperately do battle with “The Voices”, two unpredictable and hilarious voices in his head, as well as Britain’s Got Talent 2018 runner-up Robert White.
With a well rounded selection of events on offer, Phase is set to be an exciting addition to Croydon’s culture scene. The 500-capacity venue is nestled in the centre of town – within walking distance to the three railway stations in the district and just 15 mins from Victoria & 45 mins from Brighton – and aims to provide a discerning nightlife option for the surrounding area.
