A Conversation with Maklipz – Brighton Boundary Festival
Hey guys, welcome to Dance Rebels! Please introduce yourselves, and where are you both from too? Mak is from London, Klipz from Horsham.
When did you decide to form Maklipz too? How long have you both been working in the music scene for, individually and collaborating? We formed MAKLIPZ, 12 months ago. Mak has been in the music industry for 15 years Dj’ing at exclusive events across Hollywood to Cannes and London and many more spots, including Kiss 100 fm residency and BBC radio. Klipz has been on the music scene for over 8 years circulating the Brighton and London scene as well as overseas in Monaco and Abu Dhabi F1 residencies. Also currently a member of The Fedz performing at the likes of Glastonbury, Lovebox and also touring Germany this October.
You’re performing at this year’s Brighton Boundary at Stamner Park on September 28th, how hyped for this event are you? What are you most looking forward to about it? Very hyped as this is our official debut Festival as MAKLIPZ. Most looking forward to sharing a stage with the likes of Camelphat as well as presenting our style to a festival audience for the very first time.
You’re spinning the The Arch’s ‘Big Top Arena’ alongside headliners Camelphat, who are accompanied by Mason Maynard, Sonny Fodera and more! As a lineup, how highly do you rate what The Arch have conjured, if you could add 1 more artist of your choice, who would it be, and why? Camelphat are an inspiration for us as we listen to their music quite frequently and Mason Maynard we highly rate as a DJ after experiencing his set at SW4. We would like to see a surprise performance/set by Peggy Gou.
You’ve spun in London clubs and international clubs, how valuable is The Arch locally for Brighton, and Nationally as a venue? What makes the clubs such a unique experience too? Klipz: I use to DJ at the arch when it was called Digital and shared some great memories there. Big fan of that sound system!
What are your current top 3 tracks that you’re spinning in your DJ sets ATM too? I noticed you’re also producing your own music too i.e. ‘There’, will you be road-testing some more new tunes at this year’s Boundary performance also? We will definitely be playing ‘There’, road testing our new track ‘Funk is alive’ (brand new single) and a brand new remix we have been working on, of Bob marley – This is love.
What DJ tips do you have for anyone wanting to pursue a career as a DJ? How would you describe a typical Maklipz set too? What can attendees expect to experience? Believe in your artistry and follow your road as no one knows what’s better for you, than you. Expect the unexpected! – i.e. we’re still working on the final set!
