Ben Pearce’s Party Playlist
It’s been a fascinating journey for Ben Pearce so far; his prowess as a producer has led to an exhaustive list of accolades, plaudits from his peers and idols alike, and taken him around the globe on tour and made him a household name. Lying at the core of his success is a high work ethic, natural talent and a deep knowledge and appreciation of music in all its forms.
Ben Pearce – Fireproof (Club Mix) [BMG]: This is the club mix of my latest single, I played around with a few melodies but I’m so in love with the original hook I wanted to keep it stripped back. A big thing for me too was to keep the broken beat style that’s in the original at parts. Who doesn’t love a good piano and vocal number?
Swales – Higher (Club Mix) [Another Rhythm]: I’m in love with this record and not only because it’s from a fellow Mancunian; it’s so uplifting, well-structured and has the hard-hitting aspect of a top house record but the melody of a classic disco number. I play this a lot and probably won’t change that for a very long time.
Addison Groove – F1nk [Groove]: Another masterpiece from Addison Groove. Just has summer all over this. The low end is crafted so well, definite party starter. Such a clever use of vocals that gets caught in your head for days.
James Booth – Summer Interlude [Uncanny Valley]: I’ve been an uncanny valley fan since I started DJ-ing. This is just up there in the sky like a retro sci fi theme with some gorgeous melody for wings. The percussion properly creates a few moments and help it to just ebb and flow, perfect late evening sunset vibe.
Austin Ato – A Song For Mr Lewis [Phonica White]: An absolute master of his craft, I finally met this fine chap recently in Hackney and he’s a true gentlemen. The drums on this record are mind-blowingly good. Spoken word, get your hands in the air, it just ticks all the right boxes in all the best ways.
Paul Woolford – Story Of My Life [Hot Creations]: Another master of the craft. Needs no introduction and frankly any one of his tracks could go on a top 10 list. A delectable party starter, so simple but complex. I wish I could make music this good.
Simon Says – Feel Me (Yuksek Remix) [Eskimo Recordings]: Yuksek is an artist I hammer a lot of tracks out from. The build into that blissful synth and back into probably one of the grooviest beats you can knock out. I’m already excited to play this out again.
Big Miz – International Swayers Anthem [&Friends]: Another artist that I play so much of. This is a wonderful record. The energy of the drums and the complexity the synths create is just a match from the gods. Has such an organic nature to it but it’s perfectly arranged.
Ten Ven & Alex Metric – What U Need [Anjunadeep]: Fortunate enough to have Ten Ven remix my new single. This is one of my favourite records possibly of the last 5 years. The hook is unbelievable and if I heard it without the vocal, I’d say it wouldn’t need one but then that comes in and just slaps me around the face and tells me how wrong I was. I could just have this on repeat for an hour and I’d be in heaven.
L’Renee, Omar S – S.E.X (Conant Gardens Posse remix) [FXHE Records]: This might be in my top 10 electronic records of all time. I’ve been playing and listening to it for as long as I can remember. It has so much attitude but it’s so delicate. Again, it’s a case of FXHE barely putting a foot wrong. I challenge anyone not to smile when this comes on in the late afternoon sunshine.
