Mella Dee – Exactly Mate EP [Warehouse Music]
Mella Dee makes a welcome return to his award-winning Warehouse Music label with his new Exactly Mate EP. The record fuses a rich blend of sounds and textures, all focussed towards the dance floor.
Lead track Passing Me By is an elevating slice of rolling, piano-led house, filled with crisp percussion and an intoxicating vocal sample. This is followed by the groove woven, synth strewn and punchy Club Vibe, that comes ready to shake the clubs biggest rigs. On the flip, Exactly Mate is a neatly stripped back cut fitted with a thunderous chugging, bassline. Closing out the EP in style, is the refined and feel good track Out of Love.
The alias of London-based producer Ryan Aitchison, Mella Dee’s ascent to the top has been rapid. Unafraid to experiment with an array of musical styles, his output has garnered support from key figures in the industry; from Daniel Avery to The Black Madonna, and Bicep to Radio Slave. Last years Techno Disco Tool hit the top spot in BBC Radio 1’s dance music chart and was crowned of ‘Tune Of The Week’ from Radio 1 tastemaker Nick Grimshaw. Not only this, but his fledgling label was awarded the accolade of ‘Best Breakthrough Label’ in the DJ Mag Best Of British awards.
