Thursday Thoughts 044 – David Pietras
Hi David, welcome to Dance Rebels! How long have you been a DJ/producer for? And what made you pursue a career in the music industry? What sacrifices did you make too?
Hi, thank you! I’ve been producing electronic music for 7 years now. But I have been making and playing music in other genres since I was very young. The key moment was in 2014 when I saw Steve Angello playing at Size In The Park in Stockholm. I promised myself that I would one day be signed at Size Records. And 2 years later I got in contact with Steve and SIZE. I would not say that I’ve sacrificed anything. But I’ve invested a lot of time and money in my music. Sometimes I need to prioritize music over family and friends, and that is hard.
You’ve started 2018 really strong with a release entitled ‘Soleil’ in collaboration with Sebjak, its sick! What was it like to collab with him? What did you learn from him producing wise too? Any new skills learnt?
Thanks! It’s great to work with Sebjak. I’m very thankful that he helps me and supports me so much. And working with him in the studio is always inspiring, even though we usually sit 12 hours straight in the studio haha. I Learned a lot from him. Thanks to him I’ve found new ways of producing music and exploring new styles.
You’ve also just released ‘Arlanda’ in collaboration with Corey James, via SIZE Records! What does the track mean to you? What’s your personal favourite part of the track too? That moment of magic!
The track means a lot for me. It’s the first track I finished with Corey James and it is my first track releasing on SIZE Records. Both me and Corey have wanted to finish a track together for a long time, and I’m proud that Arlanda is our first release together. The name of the track also symbolizes our great moments together in Sweden.
For me it is important with whom I work with. I need to feel a good connection with the other producer to make a good collab. The feeling when making a track together is very important, because that feeling will show in the end product.
When you’re producing new tunes in the studio, what do you do for inspiration? Do you tend to listen to current music charting? Or do you have other ways to find inspiration when making new tunes?
I try to listen to different genres in my free time. Analyzing other peoples music is very important for me. And I’m always planning my tracks in my head before I go to the studio. So when I’m in the studio I know exactly what I should make and which plugins/ instruments to use.
Finally, what else do you already have planned for 2018? What labels will you be aiming to release on? Any shows scheduled too?
Can only say that I have big plans for 2018. And I am already working with, and have more upcoming tracks on all the labels I want to release on. So it feels great!
