Premiere: Son of 8 – Turn Up The Muzik EP [8 House Records]
British duo Son of 8 kick off their summer with a thumping EP by the name of Turn Up The Muzik.
The EP serves as a journey spanning multiple generations of house sounds on just two tracks. Both Son of 8 and their 8 House Records label look to continue smashing both Traxsource and Beatport charts. Their relentless pursuit of great house music has lead to support from the likes of Oliver Heldens, Roger Sanchez, Tough Love and Craig David. The EP is split up into two tracks by the same name: “Turn Up The Muzik”. The EP releases on Friday, May 26.
“Part 1 is more of a stripped back groover that swings. It’s quite simple and production wise it’s not as clever as Part 2. In part 2 we really over-engineered the sounds a lot more and really went for it on the drops and rises to give the track a more main set feel.”

Part 1 feels like an homage to traditional house music. Armed with funky vocal samples and record scratches, Son of 8 create a grooving banger that harkens back to dance music’s disco glory days and nights.
Part 2 of the EP is where Son of 8 experiments with a different vibe. A simple house blueprint receives extra help from some darker sounding synths. The duo makes perfect use of percussion and bass in this part of the EP, creating the ideal track to be listening to as the sun sets in Ibiza.
The duo has announced dates at We Are Festival, Creamfields, Eden and Pier Jam, so be sure to catch Son of 8 and their energy-filled DJ sets this summer.
In their own words:
“The ‘Turn Up The Muzik’ EP came about from playing around with some groovy basslines in the studio, and just generally having a jam. We started playing around with some loops and old samples and that we processed and then added parts to the bassline. We had the ‘Turn Up The Muzik’ acapella from an old vinyl, it seemed to work nicely so we put it in. We probably over worked the track but saved the project as we went along. When we had a listen back to the different versions we had gone off on a tangent half way through the process and created something different. We don’t usually work that way but felt both versions we ended up with worked in their own right.”
