Louis The Child – Love Is Alive EP [Ultra Music]
Louis The Child releases their 6 song “Love Is Alive“ EP! The Chicago duo of Robby and Freddy shows us their talent and heart in this collection of very different songs. Immediately we see the large extent of their creativity that is only growing. As we’ve come to expect from Louis The Child, the EP includes songs that the duo has played and teased for a while, and some we have never heard. Hearing unreleased and in progress music is amazing and watching them showcase something for the first time live really adds to their show. As of now I have seen Louis The Child three times, starting at Ultra Miami 2016, then at Syracuse University’s Mayfest, and most recently at Lollapalooza in Chicago. As a result I have been waiting for this EP for a long time, so let’s get into it!
“Go“:
“Go” is a fantastic song to start off the EP. The song jumps right into the music and you want to jump right in with it. To start we hear these energized but calming synths playing on a catchy beat. Then Freddy comes in with his own vocals, and he sounds great. We’ve heard him sing previously on “Form Here“, but this is the first time that we really get to hear his voice. The song breaks down to a beat and higher vocals, before picking up to the catchy beat, and a lovely melody on top. I especially love the choice of drums in this song. Every beat draws you into the song. This is one of my new favorites of LTC.
“Fire“ ft. Evalyn:
I first heard “Fire” play at Ultra, and I lost my shit. The drums are deep and the underlying bass creates a great vibe. Evalyn has fierce vocals match the energy of the music so well. What always gets me is the drop. The sounds when you distinguish the rhythms synths and the melody is so slick, and the timing is just right. Even though this song wasn’t released at the time, it is one of the songs that made me a huge fan.
“Slow Down Love” ft. Chelsea Cutler:
I remember Louis The Child playing this at their Lollapalooza set, and it was such a cool addition to their set. “Slow Down Love” itself is a more chill song, which Robby and Freddy have proven they are quite good at. The bass is well developed and the environment of the song is well made. Chelsea Cutler is on the vocals are powerful but subtle as well. They are mesmerizing throughout the song, and the way her voice flows is spectacular. This drop is really chill, bringing in the tropical vibe. This is a nice style change for LTC which is something I love about them.
“Phone Died” ft. blaise railey:
This song is a testament to the production ability of Louis The Child. Immediately the synths come in strong with a nice echo to them. The drums are solid and the feeling of the song is very apparent. blaise railey is on the vocals which are good. The synths in the drop feel really well constructed. The music comes together really well, and the effects put into the background give the music a great flavor.
“World On Fire” ft. Ashe:
This song just smacks you in the face because you’d never expect it. But you instantly fall in love with it. As if these guys haven’t shown us enough creativity, “World On Fire” proves to us once again that Louis The Child has a lot of ideas in inspiration. The instrumentation is beautiful, and drums are calming. I can’t get over the jazzy piano flying on top of the music. It moves so freely and brings the song so much light and emotion. But moving right beside it are the vocals of Ashe. She brings all she can to this song, showing so much control over her voice. She sounds gentle and inspiring. The harmonies are symbiotic, making us want to hear them over and over again. Listening to this song just feels amazing and pure.
“Love Is Alive” ft. Elohim:
I also first heard this at Lollapalooza. “Love Is Alive” has a fantastic vibe relaxed energy. The drums give the music a nice bounce, and that bass just flows through your ears so well. Elohim‘s voice is soothing, riding on the top of the bass with ease, and the lyrics are sweet. The melody gives the song a nice light feeling to the song, and the environment of the music is one that you don’t ever want to leave. This is a song you can enjoy anywhere, because it feels happy and uplifting.
Well that is the “Love Is Alive“ EP. Louis the Child has done a great job showing us their identity in these songs, and now we’ve learned not to be surprised by anything they make. That is one of the things I love about them. They aren’t sticking to one style of genre. Instead they make what they want and bring many cool sounds to their music and the electronic music world, which I think needs to happen more. Never be afraid to create what you love and what embodies you. Louis The Child you continue to impress and inspire us. Check out the “Love Is Alive” EP now!
