The Chainsmokers – Setting Fires (feat. XYLØ) – [DISRUPTOR Records]
As the final track in their new EP titled “Collage,” The Chainsmokers drop “Setting Fires” with fellow Disruptor Records signee XYLØ.
In 2016, “Closer,” has spent more consecutive weeks as the number one song on Billboard than “Hey Ya” by Outkast did in 2003. After such a massive record, it’s inevitable that expectations for the next tracks from my boys Alex Pall & Drew Taggart would be extremely high. I get it, sometimes it’s tough not to compare a new song to such a dope track. However, I ask that one put these expectations aside, as “Setting Fires” is a unique record that has a lot to offer.
“Setting Fires” is a smooth, melodic track featuring a main pluck that is not unlike the one used in the duo’s remix of the Say Lou Lou track, “Julian,” (a TCS classic). The song builds with some epic XYLØ vocals and drops into dynamic vocal chops atop a heavy bass line.
Alex & Drew are just getting started. We saw snapchats of them in the studio with Coldplay headman Chris Martin. If I had to guess, I would say a TCS album is in the works, or some sort of compilation more extended than a five-track EP. Can’t wait to see what these two have in store.
