Thursday Thoughts 016: Our Interview with TWIIG
The music industry moves quickly, and especially when it comes to the Croatian duo, TWIIG. Two solo artists decided to join forces, and that decision has paid off with a meteoric rise to recognition. They have become artists with constant spots on W&W‘s Mainstage Music imprint, while also gaining the support of massive names like Hardwell and Blasterjaxx. We had the opportunity to chat about the dance music scene in Croatia, what it will take for them to be like W&W and plenty more. Enjoy our chat with TWIIG!
Interview:
How did you two meet, and decide to produce music together?
There is not much dance music producers in our country, specially not the style that we are making so it was easy for us to connect, meet and work together. We made a couple of tracks together out of which one was “It Feels Right” that got more support than any of our previous works. We were comfortable in working together so we decided that two us are stronger than both doing it solo.
Where do you find your inspiration as an artist?
We are actually very uninspired the whole time. We just mess around in the studio until something catches our ear and then we get inspired by that for the rest of the song.
How does it feel to help put Croatia on the dance music map?
It feels right . Just kidding, but it really feels amazing and we hope there will be much more Croatian artists on the scene.
What experience in your musical career have you learned from the most?
Can’t really tell. It’s just a long time process and with each song we learn something new.
How long does it typically take for you guys to make a track from start to finish?
Originals never less than a month. Bootlegs are easier and faster tho.
How does it feel to have the continuous support of W&W at their big shows worldwide?
Its our main and biggest everyday motivation (together with our fan support). It’s also our biggest dream accomplished since they are our main role models in every way.
What do you two think the next big step is before you can reach the same level of stardom as W&W?
We have no idea. We are always only focused on our next song and staying in touch with our people (which are absolute f***ing legends).
How do you manage all of the hectic responsibilities and schedules of DJing and producing?
We still aren’t in DJing because we are fully focused on production at the moment. We are also having day jobs and have to fulfill our daily duties.
How do you feel about the current state of the dance music industry? Do you think things like the DJ Mag Top 100 poll are still relevant and important?
We think industry is really crowded at the moment and its hard to stand out (which is good and bad at the same time). We are really curious where will this whole thing go in near future.
We think the only important thing is that people enjoy the music. DJ Mag is not that important to us but it definitely has its impact.
What’s in store for TWIIG as the summer winds down? Any secrets you can let us in on? Please include your top five songs at the moment!
In the store is a lot of work :D. We have a couple of finished tracks which gained interest from major names, but we don’t want to talk about anything too soon.
Top 5 Songs:
- W&W – Ultra Miami 2016 intro ID
- Bart Claessen – T.I.N.A.
- Calvin Harris & Rihanna – This Is What You Came For
- Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend (both original & W&W bootleg)
- Jonas Blue – Perfect Strangers
