Thursday Thoughts 014: Our Interview with KLYMVX
When it comes to rising stars, most people look to the Netherlands. Look to the south, however, as we talked to a rising star duo from France. KLYMVX is a duo headquartered in Paris, and they are certainly on the fast track to mainstream recognition. They gained their recognition in the Internet dance music community with remixes for The Chainsmokers and Charlie Puth. Now, they have signed a deal with Sony Music, and are in the process of unveiling fantastic original music. We had the opportunity to chat with the duo about how they met, working with vocalist COZY and plenty more. Enjoy!
Interview:
How did you two meet, and decide to work on music together?
We went to the same school (ESRA), so we met there. It’s an audio-visual school in France and we noticed that we had exactly the same music tastes and influences so we became friends in like 2 seconds! A short time after that we decided to start producing together.
Where do you guys find your inspiration as artists?
You know inspiration is everywhere; we can find it by looking at something beautiful or even something ugly, we can find it in a landscape, an ambience… And it’s kind of very personal as well so sometimes it comes directly from our head or our heart. Music is visceral for us.
At what point did you decide to focus on making an original track?
We worked hard trying to create a real fan base, by remixing famous track and stuff. It was only after we felt comfortable with that, that we dared making an original track. It took a year!
How did you get in touch with COZY to work on “Come Closer”?
Actually we met Cozy at school too, a friend of ours told us to get in touch with him for a school project (KLYMVX ft. Cozy – Fallen). It was actually our exam track; from that, we became friends and worked on several tracks together. So for our very first single we thought it was normal to call him!
What did it feel like to sign with Sony Music?
Well, it’s like a dream come true!
What experience in your musical career have you learned from the most?
We learned the most by making our first official remix for Charlie Puth. We were “newbies” in the industry so we had to learn and understand every single step of the process: release, agreements and stuff. It was actually a very exciting moment in our career!
What makes a KLYMVX live performance different than the rest?
None of our sets are the same; it depends of the event and the location. But we do have an explosive set, you guys should come see us one day ;)
If you could collaborate with one artist regardless of genre, who would it be, and why?
It’s impossible to say only one – there are so many artists we would love to collaborate with – but definitely Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Sia and DJ Snake.
How do you feel about the current state of the dance music industry? Do you think things like the DJ Mag Top 100 poll are still relevant and important?
We feel good about the dance music industry, you know we all have the same goal: to make people dance. So as long as they enjoy it, we’re good.
To be honest we don’t know who is #1 or #100; we don’t really follow it. For us DJ Mag Top 100 isn’t really that relevant, but we can understand it’s importance to others.
What’s in store for KLYMVX for this summer, and beyond? Any secrets you can let us in on?
All we can say for this summer is: ENJOY ‘COME CLOSER’!!
