Thursday Thoughts 013: Our Interview with Delayers
The word “delay” typically has a poor connotation. But, the Delayers trio from San Marino found a way to give “delays” a good name. The grouping of Federico Bombini, John Carattoni and Luca Zucchi have an impressive discography. They have seen their tracks featured on high-profile labels like Musical Freedom, Universal Music, Armada and many more. They also have a big release coming up on August 12 on Big & Dirty Records titled “Dodge”. We talked to the guys about that single, their status as a trio and plenty more. Enjoy!
Interview:
Where do you find your inspiration as an artist?
For us the inspiration comes from daily life…we get inspired by our mood, our friendships and everything that is around us.
Who has been your greatest mentor as you build your career?
This might be our manager Ricky that believed in us since day 0.
What’s it like to produce and perform as a trio?
At first was quite difficult because we didn’t have the harmony that we have now… It’s a lot better now because we manage things lot better, we all produce and we all DJing but everyone is doing his part.
What experience in your musical career have you learned from the most?
That you don’t have to wait a single minute, you always have to work, be active and positive!
You guys have collaborated a lot with people like Maurizio Gubellini and Nari & Milani. What is it like to work with them?
Yes we worked a lot with them. First collab was with Maurizio that we collaborated on “In Da House” and with Nari & Milani we started our relation with a remix of “Atom”… they are really cool guys and they also are like second dads for us because they’re always waring us on this music business.
Can you describe the production process behind your upcoming single, “Dodge”?
So a demo of this track was sent to us by this new producer, Larry and we really liked it, so we started to work on it and we arrived to the final track!
What makes a Delayers production and/or live performance unique compared to the others in the dance music industry?
We cannot really tell, I mean the crowd has to say that but we think that during a live show we really deliver our passion for music. Regarding productions we try to keep our style even if isn’t “cheep” or “intuitive” to the main stream but this is what we want, be unique or at least we try :)
How do you manage all of the hectic responsibilities and schedules of DJing and producing?
We had a really busy week just now, we went from Mantova to Rome to Reggio Calabria in four days with 2 night without having a sleep… I mean, this is really cool but sometime you really need to sleep ahah
How do you feel about the current state of the dance music industry? Do you think things like the DJ Mag Top 100 poll are still relevant and important?
Mmm it’s hard to tell but for what we see, big dj and producer are trying to reach the pop scene (mainstream) but really we don’t know if this will be the new sound in 2017.
What’s in store for Delayers for this summer, and beyond? Any secrets you can let us in on?
We did a lot of cool gigs in some of the clubs that we always dreamed of, like Cocoricò and Number One… then we are working on big track and collab with BIG names but we can’t say yet :)
