Hardwell – Wake Up Call [Revealed Recordings]
Hardwell experimented with hardstyle earlier this year along with Sephyx. He clearly wanted more, and “Wake Up Call” is the solution.
This track is a staple in just about every recent Hardwell set. He uses it as a closing track because it starts off as big-room house, before morphing into hardstyle. I got to witness this banger firsthand when Hardwell came to Syracuse, N.Y. on his Revealed bus tour. It really got its introduction to the world when he closed the Ultra mainstage with “Wake Up Call” in March.
There is an awesome melody introduced in the breakdown that prevails through the whole track. It starts off as just a pluck, but then grows into a triumphant, full-bodied sound. After a quick buildup, a “This is your wake up call” sample triggers the drop. The drop is incredible big-room house, with a fat bass kick and strong synths. The hardstyle makes its way in towards the end, as Hardwell swaps in a hardstyle kick. As the next breakdown starts, the tempo slowly starts rising. The chords then roar to life with that razor-sharp hardstyle sound that everyone knows. Hardwell then brings “Wake Up Call” into a rousing and melodic drop, full of bass and pitched kicks. The last drop combines big-room and hardstyle, as the first drop’s top line combines with the second’s bassline.
