Holl & Rush – Pheromones (Dannic Edit) [Fonk Recordings]
The combination of Holl & Rush and Dannic is something I can definitely get behind. “Pheromones” shows off their strengths beautifully.
These artists have always supported each other, so a collaboration makes perfect sense. This tune appeared for the first time during Dannic‘s set on Laidback Luke‘s Super You&Me stage at Tomorrowland. Since then, it also got picked up by Blasterjaxx, Deniz Koyu, W&W and more.
Technically, this isn’t a full-on collaboration. The “edit” part means that Holl & Rush had a great idea, and Dannic perfected it. The breakdown is driven by a vocoder-enhanced vocal. It repeats a few times, before looping with drums coming in from the background. The build pitches the vocals creatively as the sound hints at the impending groovy drop. The first few notes of the drop actually bridge the two segments, and then a groovy bassline takes over. The chord progression hits a wide variety of notes, which is something Holl & Rush and Dannic work into all their tracks. “Pheromones” is the result of great minds in the studio making a great track.
