Tomorrowland Spotlight: Paul Kalkbrenner
Our third Tomorrowland Spotlight stays on the mainstage, but is nothing like the first two editions. Today, we feature German techno mastermind Paul Kalkbrenner.
His performance is very unique because he really is not a DJ. Kalkbrenner is well known because he breaks tracks down into pieces, and reconstructs them on-the-fly. On stage, he uses a lot more equipment than a standard DJ, including what looks to be a 32-channel mixer.
The energy in his set perfectly fit the atmosphere of the mainstage. Paul Kalkbrenner brought out his best tunes, and gave them the flair that only a live performer can. The house vibe was undeniable, and every ounce of energy was clearly put to good use. He played songs from all over his own discography, with his 2010 hit “Sky and Sand” playing an integral role. His kind of performance is quite distinct, and certainly worth the listen.
