Sander van Doorn – Not Alone [June 13 – Doorn Records]
Sander van Doorn has been a bit quiet of late, and almost too quiet, at that. The Dutchman has bided his time with two earlier releases this year, “Tribal” with Gregor Salto as well as his solo tune, “Cuba Libre”. You can’t expect as dynamic of a producer as Mr. van Doorn to stay dormant for so long, and that silence has most certainly been broken. He now introduces his next big single by the name of “Not Alone,” and this one marks yet another dramatic change in style. Sander van Doorn himself dropped it in a Bij Igmar set back in January, and was premiered worldwide by Oliver Heldens on his Heldeep Radio show. That lead many people to believe the artist responsible is actually Heldens’ HI-LO alias, but it is in fact a product of Sander van Doorn‘s. “Not Alone” will be released via Doorn Records on June 13.
I mentioned the change in style in the first paragraph, and I still think that is one of the most important parts of this song. Sander van Doorn has clearly made a concerted effort to not be complacent in his sound, which really shows how hard he works in the studio. “Not Alone” starts off with all the signatures of your typical house song, but eventually grows to be more than that. There’s a vocal added at certain points, which is clearly how the track gets its name. It’s obvious that this tune is more than traditional house when the bassline starts to kick in. Sander van Doorn brings in a lively and loud bassline that serves as the main melody, while a lighter and higher-pitched synth completes the drop. It’s simple, but highly effective on “Not Alone”.
