Various Artists – Skinkalation Vol. 2 EP [Skink]
Just like last year, the Janssen brothers behind Showtek have curated a big Skinkalation EP full of tracks to kick off the summer music season. There are four brand-new tracks available as part of the release, alongside one of the previous Showtek collaborations with David Guetta. The EP shows of plenty of young, unrecognized talent that hope to make it big in the coming weeks.
If you listened to David Guetta‘s 2015 album Listen Again, then you’ve already heard a tune titled “The Death of EDM”. This collaboration between Guetta, Showtek, and Beardyman also appears as the first song on the EP. Beardyman has rambling vocals that take over a rather uneventful breakdown, before the track drops with a slowly paced, but bass heavy drop.
The new exclusives begin in the No. 2 spot with Tom Ferro and Crossnaders‘ “Cray”. This tune really plays with the typical 4/4 kick pattern used by most producers by throwing in some triplets under a snare-heavy topline that is crafted from heavily manipulated vocal samples.
No. 3 comes from Lenx & Denx and Rendo, and is one of the more unique tunes around. It combines vocals, and influences of both progressive and electro house all into one record. The breakdown has a very infectious vibe, and the drops hit with powerful synths in a very smooth melody.
The fourth spot on the EP comes in the form of “Hypno,” a song from Jimmy Clash and The Dirty Code. This one can be described as future house on steroids, as that unmistakable combination of synths is combined with a very fat bassline to take the energy to a new level.
Rounding out the EP is a remix from Richy George. He took on a track that was actually part of the inaugural Skinalation EP last year in the form of Faya‘s “Rock The House”. The original mix has an overwhelmingly groovy vibe, but this remix brings a bass kick of seismic proportions in an undeniable big-room remix.
