Martin Garrix & Third Party – Lions In The Wild [STMPD RCRDS]
Ever since his impressive closing set on the Friday night of March’s Ultra Music Festival, fans have been waiting for new music from arguably dance music’s biggest star, Martin Garrix. Two months have passed, and now the tune that served as his intro is finally here. Garrix linked up with London-based duo Third Party to bring “Lions In The Wild” to life, marking the second release on Mr. Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS label. These two artists are highly compatible in terms of style, as Martin Garrix‘s last few tracks have been exclusively progressive house, and Third Party have been consistently strong in that genre. The vocals on this record are impeccably mixed, and the producers did a fantastic job of carving out the perfect amount of space amongst a skillful instrumental. As it slowly gains complexity, the instrumental grows in emotion as well, becoming more intense as the vocalist reaches a powerful bridge. Underneath the vocals, the listener can pick out a preview of the drop since that melody is introduced into the mix rather early on in the song. Martin Garrix and Third Party utilized the perfect amount and placement of percussion in the buildup, and by doing so, are able to build the excitement in a unique way. The drop shows off the sheer talent of the producers by combining a blissful topline with a pulsating baseline with a mesmerizing effect. No official word yet regarding the rumors of a Martin Garrix studio album, but as in his Ultra set, “Lions In The Wild” is a fantastic introduction.
