Dirty Ducks – Apache [Mirage Records]
When you can say that Steve Angello played your track in his BBC Radio 1 Residency mix, it is a pretty big accomplishment. That is exactly what Italian duo Dirty Ducks can say about their next release, as “Apache” was supported by the Size Records boss during the May 19 episode. This track really embodies what groovy house tunes need to succeed, but also pushes it to another level of intensity. The first drop commences immediately off of the intro, following a deeply pitched vocal fill. The pluck style top line is something that has migrated to groove house recently, but the bassline is something that one would expect to hear on a 2013-style big room track. That combination works really well, as the groovy top line and body-shaking bassline brings a vibe that is tough to top. The breakdown really serves to build up hype for the second drop, as the chord progression from the drop is audible throughout. There are some tribal chants mixed in, and that is probably how Dirty Ducks decided on the name, “Apache”. The second drop brings another round of that raw energy, and shows exactly why Steve Angello simply had to play it out during his BBC R1 residency. Dirty Ducks did very well for themselves, and now have a huge tune to their name for the summer.
