DBSTF – Afreaka [Mainstage Music]
Ever since they added big-room to their arsenal alongside hardstyle, duo DBSTF has had a knack for creating absolutely massive hits at the 128 tempo. D-Block & S-te-Fan, as they are known on hardstyle tracks, are able to do that since they are unafraid to bring some hardstyle influence into their house music, and “Afreaka” is no exception to that. They kick off the breakdown with a catchy melody that is quickly joined by a tribal vocal. This vocal sounds familiar to me, but I just cannot put my finger on exactly where I’ve heard it before. Out of that section, “Afreaka” erupts into a huge, synth-driven melody; a sound that has really become the trademark of DBSTF big-room productions. The saw synth they use really brings an infectious energy, and makes dancing quite hard to resist. The vocal is reintroduced to add an extra element to the buildup, before DBSTF cranks the energy up on the first drop with that strong melody, and complementary bassline. The second drop brings some absolute electro firepower into the “Afreaka,” as a wild topline joins forces with a triplet bassline to round out this record with a bang. DBSTF show that consistently bring the energy with every tune they release.
