The Chainsmokers feat. Daya – Don’t Let Me Down (Hardwell & Sephyx Remix) [Sony Music]
Something very high on the list of things I didn’t expect to see this summer was a Hardwell hardstyle track. I’ve been proven wrong before, and have been again since the two-time No. 1 DJ in the world has teamed up with Sephyx, a hardstyle producer from his hometown of Breda, for a huge hardstyle remix of The Chainsmokers‘ smash hit, “Don’t Let Me Down”. Sephyx should be no stranger to those who follow Revealed Recordings, as he contributed a highly energetic remix of Hardwell‘s first collaboration with Jake Reese, “Mad World”. This remix leaves the original untouched for the majority of the breakdown, save for a tempo change to get into the 150 BPM hardstyle mood. Like any good hardstyle tracks, there are two completely different drops on this remix. Hardwell and Sephyx unleash a loud yet beautiful melody after the conclusion of the chorus, and turn that into a melodic drop with an absolutely massive low-end. If you listen closely, that chord progression mimics the melody of Daya‘s vocals in the bridge. There is a quick buildup after the first drop as Hardwell and Sephyx waste no time in preparing the second drop. This one brings pure firepower, as it takes the original’s drops to a whole new level with a blistering hardstyle flip. Like I said, seeing Hardwell do hardstyle was entirely unexpected, but the combination of Hardwell‘s melodic expertise and Sephyx‘s flair for the harder styles result in an undeniably huge remix.
