Beatport Announces It Will Axe Streaming Service + More To Streamline Company
The SFX Entertainment bankruptcy case has caused yet another ripple in the dance music community. Beatport, the digital music store trusted most by DJs, announced via their official blog that it will be shutting down the streaming service and mobile app, Beatport News, the video livestreaming platform, and the events section starting on May 13, 2016. The Beatport online store will remain unchanged, and will become the company’s main focus once again.
The company also announced in the same blog post that it was suspending the auction process that had begun for the company. As a result, Beatport will continue to be administrated by the same folks in charge right now. The blog post touted how they had managed to have the site “running up to 51% faster.”
This is clearly a move made to make Beatport exactly what it was pre-SFX: just an online music store. This allows Beatport to lower their operating costs, and focus more on just having a successful music store.
