PREVIOUS STORY:
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Australia’s landmark Stereosonic festival has been canceled for this summer, and perhaps permanently.
Various sources have cited a report from Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph, which unfortunately sits behind a paywall. Mixmag, among others, reported that the cancelation stems from the deaths of two Stereosonic attendees, Sylvia Choi and Stefan Woodward, during different stops of last year’s festival.
The company responsible for Stereosonic before the SFX takeover, Totem OneLove, stated earlier this year that they were “cash-flow positive,” and that SFX’s financial problems would not affect them. There are rumors that SFX and Totem OneLove will be creating a new festival to fill the void left by Stereosonic, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.
This story will be updated with developments as they come in.
