Avicii Announces His Remaining 2016 Tour Will Be His Last
One of the most influential names in the last 10 years of the dance music industry will be taking his victory lap. Swedish DJ/producer Avicii has announced that his current slate of 2016 shows will be his last, and what he has already scheduled will be his final tour.
The “Levels” producer made his announcement via Facebook, starting off by thanking the “too many people to mention in one sitting that had an impact on me in this industry”. He cited his recent decision to drive across the U.S. as a time of reflection, and that he needed to “explore” his “strong interests in different areas”.
“Levels” was obviously a turning point in Avicii‘s career, as that track took the scene by storm and became an anthem for a generation of dance music fans. His legacy includes so much more, as he also produced boundary-pushing albums True and Stories. He helped push for more genre variety with his inclusion of live instruments in his 2013 Ultra Music Festival mainstage set.
Avicii also had to take a temporary hiatus from touring in the latter part of 2014 due to surgeries that removed his gall bladder and appendix earlier that year. It was widely rumored in the industry that he was also receiving treatment for a potential drug addiction.
Avicii‘s post did leave it open-ended as to whether or not he will make a return to touring, signing off by saying that he “could be back …but I won’t be right back.”
Hello world,Thank you for letting me fulfil so many of my dreams. I will be forever grateful to have experienced and…
