Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman vs. Tom Staar – Empire [April 8 – Buce Records]
Patience is a necessary trait for dance music fans. Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman and Tom Staar first teased their collaboration in late 2014, and here we are finally getting news on “Empire” in early 2016. These guys are huge names in the groove scene, and it’s great to have this track see the light of day. Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman opened up the new year with a new collaboration with Ron Carroll by the name of “Running,” while the latest work from Tom Staar was a massive collaboration with Knife Party titled “Kraken”. “Empire” was rumored to be part of Steve Angello‘s trove of new Size Records tunes, but will be released through Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman‘s Buce Records, instead, on April 8.
We mentioned groove before, but that’s not really what “Empire” is about. This record is a progressive thoroughbred, and that is obvious right from the start. The breakdown begins with a mellow section that has a very mysterious feel to it. A melody joins the sound, and starts to kickstart the energy of the track. That energy continues to increase even more as a repetitive snare signals the beginning of a suspenseful buildup. The real magic kicks in once the track drops, as Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman and Tom Staar bring more complicated synth play to the mix atop a formidable bassline. Progressive house anthems like “Empire” don’t come around too often, and this one has its sights set on dominating this summer’s festival season.
Grab “Empire” when it drops via Buce Records on April 8.
