Relive Knife Party & Pendulum’s Epic Closing Set at Ultra Music Festival w/ Tom Morello & deadmau5
From the moment the show was announced, the revival of Pendulum shook the dance music world. On March 20, 2016, their show literally shook Miami.
The two-act closing set kicked off with a massive DJ set from Knife Party, comprised of Pendulum members Rob Swire & Gareth McGrillen. The duo seamlessly combined their essential hits alongside an infusion of some big new tracks that fit various categories. They even teased their upcoming Pendulum act by throwing in vocal overlays from tracks like “Granite” and “Different” over other tracks. They brought out their first special guest in the form of Rage Against the Machine guitarist, Tom Morello.
Together, they played an unreal live version of “Bonfire,” and also unleashed a new collaboration with Morello’s new project, Atlas Underground. That track is titled “Battle Sirens,” and has no release information just yet. The stage then spun around, and Pendulum took over.
The band broke out a kick-ass, five song set. The greatest moment was easily the beginning, as Rob Swire began to sing the familiar words of “The Island”. Fans in the crowd instantly connected to the track, and began to scream alongside the newly-reunited band.
Special guest No. 2 was a man who was no stranger to the Ultra Music Festival crowd during its 18th edition: deadmau5. Way back in 2009, the Canadian teamed up with Rob Swire to create the classic track, “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff”. deadmau5 joined them onstage to deliver a fantastic, live rendition of the track that brought many people (myself included) into the dance music scene.
Our readers voted this set as the best closing set, beating out Friday and Saturday headliners Martin Garrix and Hardwell.
What a weekend! #Ultra2016 has come to a close. Who had the best of the three closing sets?
