Martin Garrix Steals The Show With Incredible Closing Set on Ultra Music Festival Mainstage
In a livestream to fans ahead of his landmark closing set at Ultra Music Festival, Martin Garrix said he had been “rehearsing for weeks” in order to make his set perfect. All of that preparation showed as the 19-year-old certainly lived up to the hype surrounding his UMF slot.
Garrix had a highly-publicized falling out with his former Spinnin’ Records label, and had just recently introduced his own STMPD RCRDS imprint in the weeks before. With just days between him and the Ultra mainstage, Garrix teased his fans with his plans to “play nine unreleased tracks”.
The set he delivered was beyond all expectations, and in a way that many fans weren’t ready for. Gone is the producer who pumped out big-room hits like “Animals,” and in his place, a producer who has matured greatly in the music industry. All songs he played were Martin Garrix productions, and each track (with the exceptions of “Turn Up the Speakers” with Afrojack and his rap productions) fit squarely into the progressive house category.
He uncorked various collaborations with different vocalists, which all resulted in unique sounds and fans clammoring for more information. Familiar songs like “Don’t Look Down” with Usher and “Forbidden Voices” fit alongside Sensation anthem “Tremor” to create some variety.
It seems as though Martin Garrix is lending his skills to the hip hop scene, since he also debuted two rap tracks.
The pressure was on for Garrix to showcase his freedom from Spinnin’ Records, and now there is no doubt in the industry that, with no restrictions, Martin Garrix is going to take over.
