Calm Before The CREAM: Our Interview with Jewelz & Sparks
Duo Jewelz & Sparks know a thing or two about great music. They have seen constant support from plenty of big names, and bring energy to their livesets. We got the chance to have a chat with them as they prepare for an action-packed Miami Music Week, and got their take on a wide range of topics. Here you have it: 10 questions with Jewelz & Sparks!
You guys changed from “Jewelz & Scott Sparks” to simply “Jewelz & Sparks,” what led to your name change?
We always wanted a feeling of unity for the name. “Jewelz & Scott Sparks“ was more like a collaboration. But since we both were active as single producers before we decided to be permanent as duo, ergo “Jewelz & Sparks“.
How would you describe the “Jewelz & Sparks” sound to someone new to dance music?
It is straightforward and you will get it right away! So beginners are welcome! ;)
How important is Miami Music Week and the Winter Music Conference to you guys?
We think it’s an important week for the music industry and it’s also a huge party for everyone. It’s a great way to connect with other artists and exchange ideas especially while hanging out in the sun ;)
When you come to Miami, who do you look forward to seeing play the most?
We’re looking forward to seeing Skrillex and Wiwek, they are some really exciting artists in our opinion.
Who has been your greatest mentor in your musical career so far?
As we both have been creating music from age 5 the different mentors and personal favourites change throughout your life. Some of the most influential characters were: Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy and Fedde Le Grand.
What is the most difficult part of life as a DJ?
Trying to get ahead of things. If you think you’re done with one thing, there’s always something else already waiting to be done.
What do you think the biggest problem facing the music industry is today?
We think it’s the amount of music, that makes it difficult to find the real gold out there. In addition to that, the last couple of months have been game changing for a lot of artists. Everyone seems to be looking for their new sound. This is something that can put you in a tough spot. We’re glad we’ve found our own style.
A lot of artists have been producing studio albums, will there ever be a Jewelz & Sparks album?
Never say never.
Describe your preparation for a club gig like Danny Avila & Tujamo’s “Cream” night at SET Miami.
We always like to drop the one or the other surprise into our sets. We mostly play our own music and special edits so we have a lot of unheard tracks for our show at SET!
You heard it from them! Check out Jewelz & Sparks as they play on March 16 at CREAM at SET Nightclub, and at the Maxximize event on March 17 at the Spinnin’ Hotel.
