Pioneer Debuts New NXS2 Line of CDJ-2000 and DJM-900
When you see the majority of your favorite DJs play live, they’re playing their set on Pioneer equipment.
The company introduced an expansion upon their incredibly popular Nexus series of DJM mixers and CDJ players, branding the new line as NXS2. Aesthetically, there are no real differences when comparing the old and new editions of the CDJ-2000 and DJM-900. The improvements are almost entirely internal, but will allow any DJ to step up their game.
The CDJ-2000NXS2 now has a 96 kHz/24-bit sound card, and is now capable of playing Apple Lossless audio files. The most game changing feature added to the new player is it’s new touch screen interface. The screen is more intuitive than ever, and even features a full QWERTY keyboard to allow for DJs to search through their vast libraries with ease. They’ve also expanded the hot cue bank from just three, now allowing DJs to choose from eight.
The DJM-900NXS2 features a similar jump in audio quality, as it now features a 64-bit mixing processor. Previous editions of the mixer only had a 32-bit processor. Pioneer reworked the curve on every knob and fader, with Hot Since 82 saying, “All the ranges are really nice, neat, and how they should be.” The mixer also features brand-new effects like Ping Pong, Vinyl Brake, Helix, and Pitch, as well as a totally revamped reverb effect.
The only downside with the top-of-the-line Pioneer equipment is the price point. The older Nexus units sold around $2000 (1850€), so the newer models will probably sell for around the same cost. Regardless, there’s absolutely zero doubt in my mind that these new pieces of equipment will soon become the industry standard for DJs and clubs all around the world. Pioneer has shown great dedication to keeping their equipment up to date with the newest technological advances, and shows their continued commitment to manufacturing the gear that DJs everywhere swear by.
