Martin Garrix Terminates Deal With Spinnin’ Records Over Music Rights
Dutch mega-label Spinnin’ Records has just lost its crown jewel.
Martin Garrix announced today that he has terminated his publishing and management deal with Spinnin’ Records. The 19-year-old superstar producer/DJ had been signed to the label for just about every release in his young career. He was also managed by the team at MusicAllstars, which is a subsidiary of the label. The disagreement, and eventual termination, of their exclusive deal came as the result of a dispute over the ownership rights of Garrix’s music. Garrix wanted to assume primary control over the ownership of his music, and when the label refused, he decided it was time for a change.
Labels have been known to be greedy in the past, and it’s disappointing that arguably the biggest star in dance music has become the victim of corporate greed. Martin Garrix still has an incredibly high ceiling, and will definitely continue to be successful outside of the Spinnin’ Records organization. Perhaps he now has his sights set on his own label, or maybe just a simpler process to release his work. It looks like we will get a sneak peek at what’s next for Martin Garrix at the upcoming Amsterdam Dance Event. Stay tuned!
We will update this article as the situation develops.
