Mat Zo Takes Aim at the Dance Music Industry, Tiësto, Armin van Buuren On Twitter
It has been a while since we covered an artist going on a Twitter rant, and this one is a good one. Not good meaning entertaining, but good as in actually good. British DJ/producer Mat Zo is absolutely no stranger to speaking his mind on absolutely everything, and he took to Twitter to absolutely bash the current state of the dance music industry. Not only did he call out the industry as a whole, but called out specific individuals for their various injustices against the dance music community.
“@felixcartal: what's the message”
"Open your fucking eyes!"

I like to pretend that Im not flogging a dead horse and that theres still hope for electronic music
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
.@tiesto once said to me "those trance guys are a bunch of old losers" maybe cus they stuck with their passion and didn't go chasing pussy
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
Tiësto was Mat Zo‘s first victim. Of course, everyone knows how he jumped ship from trance to house as the former’s popularity waned in favor of the latter.
And I think this sums it all up perfectly. And other djs who know whats going on should speak out more
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
For too long these guys have pretended make their own music succeeded and leave us actual producers to struggle
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
I don't want to damage these big DJ's careers, i couldn't even if I wanted to, but you should know they rely completely on smaller talent
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
Funny how when I joke about producing for @krewella blogs go crazy but when I call out @tiesto they go silent. Interesting
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
He brings up an interesting point; I think the fact of the matter is Tiësto has been around much longer than Krewella will ever be.
@AndiDurrant no way @arminvanbuuren is the worst. Look at the talent on armada he 'supports' and look how they're all stuck
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
Next up: Armin van Buuren.
I'm probably just killing my career without making a difference though. Worth a try at least aye
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
Guys like @skrillex @aboveandbeyond @ericprydz @deadmau5 are some of the only real people who headline festivals
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
Mat Zo finally infused some positive vibes into his Twitter feed, by shouting out a few artists that he has a favorable opinion of.
What I don’t understand is: Mat Zo has the information to absolutely destroy the careers of a bunch of people. The other thing is, he has the fan base to continue to be a relevant musician even if he outs people.
I really cant wait to put out my album, which will speak so much louder than my words on fucking social media
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
If this is true, I absolutely cannot wait for his album.
In one of the final tweets, Mat Zo send what was basically on everybody’s mind:
140 characters really isn't enough for this 😞
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo) May 29, 2015
This is the kind of wake up call that this industry needs, but needs to followed up by some sort of action. Mat Zo offered a very simple piece of advice to the next generation of dance music producers in what might be his most significant tweet posted throughout this period:
I speaking to the electronic music producers of the future, you could be one of them, you might already be one. Don't forget what you are
