MAKJ & Thomas Newson – Black [May 26 – Protocol Recordings]
It has been absolutely no secret that MAKJ and Thomas Newson have been working on a track together for ages. They’ve talked about it on just about every form of social media, and have now finally revealed the teaser for “Black”. The track was first showed off to the world by each producer in their own DJ set, but also by Protocol Recordings label boss Nicky Romero during two giant international festivals. MAKJ, of course, is fresh off a slightly self-deprecating release under the title of “Generic,” while Thomas Newson just worked together with the Bassjackers for a big-room smash called “Wave Your Hands”. Their work together is scheduled to be released on May 26 through Protocol Recordings.
When you click play on the preview for the first time, expect a little something different than the usual. MAKJ and Thomas Newson aren’t trying to blast your brain out with over-the-top rave synths, but have decided to go with a slightly more refined sound for their melody. It’s not the most complex chord progression, but certainly gets the job done. The energy from the melody is reinforced by a vocal stab that actually gives the track “Black” its name. The drop is a completely different style than their usual also, as a grooving bassline and complementary top line gives “Black” a feel that will make it a must-play for weeks to come.
Grab the MAKJ and Thomas Newson collaboration known as “Black” when it drops via Protocol Recordings on May 26.
