Zaiaku – Lost Identity/The Defect [Titan Records]
[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]While I am not known for reviewing much D&B, if any at all, Zaiaku’s release on Titan Records is definitely a great attempt at a modern style of music that blends genres and energy into a great combo of tracks. These tracks sound incredibly powerful and use the speed of D&B with the power of dubstep to great effect. The track not only gets amplified by its percussion, but also by the bass-heavy and ridiculously loud synths that will pound your speakers into submission. It’s like Skrillex decided to make D&B in almost every way possible except that Skrillex would probably have mastered the tracks better. That being said, a lot of my interest is lost when it comes down to the pure musicality of the tracks. The ambient piano breaks are a bit corny, and overall the music isn’t all that imaginative. It sounds amazing, but it’s quite hard to distinguish between the two tracks. Overall, the release sounds great but I have to knock off some points for blandness.
Also, the low-flying plane over the mountains on their cover art is probably a bad choice right now.
