Soul Clap – Misty (feat. Robert Owens) [Soul Clap Records]
Oh my lord. I can’t recommend this album to anyone. Never in my life have I heard such a mix of cringe-worthy vocals, poorly mixed tracks, and shoddy synth work. I mean honestly, the tracks come down to even needing a bit of tuning. The vocals/synths are off-key and don’t match up AT ALL. The vocals are also mixed WAY too high. You’d think they’d mix these vocals DOWN but no, no they chose to keep it as an important foreground item. The worst part too, is that almost every track in the release features the vocals which will instantly ruin everything for me. While Louie Vega has some interesting synth work, specifically around his use of bass and percussion, the vocals just drag it down. Tanner Ross takes the original track and turns it on it’s head, using the vocals in a way that I actually enjoyed. It was nice to hear such a creative take on the track, and the synth work is really well done. If anything, buy this track.
But as always decide for yourself because art is subjective.
