My Digital Enemy – Shamen (Tim Cullen Remix) [Vudu Records]
One of the more popular tech house tracks of this month, Shamen, has been remixed by british producer Tim Cullen and while it keeps it’s tech house style, Cullen shows his UK influence and creates a great hybrid of garage and tech house. Keeping a faster pace than most UK producers tend to prefer, Cullen’s remix is energetic, vibrant, and will keep a dance floor moving in any city. While it has that kick/high hat tradeoff that tech house leans towards, it also features a thick and well-produced bass-line as it’s main instrument. Cullen fuses the UK sound with tech house so well, that the track could be played in multiple different scenes and situations and the track as a whole is very versatile. That being said, it can become a bit repetitive at certain points and may not be a track that, for most people, can be listened to outside of a club atmosphere. The production also lacks a bit of depth as the synths can be a bit shallow at certain points, and it also seems as though the track lacks a certain “it” factor or force to propel it to a new level. Check it out.
