Ian Pooley – Floris EP [Innervisions]
Out on Innervisions right now is a new EP by Ian Pooley that is a must buy for any fans of deep house, or any dance music for that matter. Consisting of only two tracks, the EP explores a very spacey and chord-focused style of deep house. Opting for more smooth synths over a pumping bass-line, the tracks tend to be a bit more melodic and ambient than your standard deep house fare. The Beginning grooves the hardest and is my favorite track of the release. The tone of the synths used in the track is so tight but also expressive. The drum beats combines with the more melodic synths to give the groove a sense of movement and an overall danceable feel. The bass-line also comes in to add a bit more power and emphasize the kick drum. Floris relies more heavily on lower-range synths and bass. Feeling almost minimalistic and in some places empty, the track is much more relaxed. Pooley’s use of the really nicely shaped organ overtop also adds a cool layer to the track as a whole.
