Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs. W&W – Waves (MIDIcal Remix)
This year, the makers of the Tomorrowland anthem were comprised of two duos. From Belgium and the Netherlands respectively, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and W&W are an obviously star-studded lineup. The original mix of “Waves” served as the official anthem track for this year’s edition of the world’s best known music festival, and made it as high as #2 in the Beatport Overall Top 100 chart. The original took on the sound that “Mammoth” (DV & LM w/ Moguai) brought to mainstream fame, which is a light, progressive lead synth laid on top of a pounding bassline. Enter MIDIcal, an up-and-coming Italian producer, who was responsible for a beautiful remix to Dannic‘s “Dear Life”. Now that the dust has settled after the obvious controversy (he and his partner garnered the most votes, but did not win the contest), he has allowed his talent for the big room sound to shine through on his remix of “Waves”. He completely maintains the melody from the original track, but is able to completely change the vibe with the drop. Gone is that light synth from the drop, and it is replaced by a subwoofer-rattling bass kick and an intricate series of percussion. As some of his previous works have caught the attention of FTampa, Joey Dale, and more, so it is clear that his most recent effort from MIDIcal should get the attention of some big names.
