WhoMadeWho – Heads Above/Hiding In Darkness Remixes [Ellum Audio]
For the fans of Maceo Plex, a remix release has dropped on Ellum Audio featuring two remixes by not only him, but also Mario Basanov, and Kyson. Maceo’s sound is a bit different in this and leans more toward a brighter tech house than his darker, deeper side. The track is catchy and well done, and you can catch bits of Maceo’s sound in certain parts which adds a nice familiarity to it. While the track can be a bit repetitive, this is still a great listen for anyone. Mario’s remix is also well done and takes the track to a whole different style. The synths are wonderfully done with a great tone, and the also have a catchy melody. The sound is unique, fun, and upbeat yet still keeps that deep house cool to it. I would argue that Mario’s version is better than Maceo’s so if you’re listening to this release just for Maceo Plex, give Mario’s version a chance. The vocals go really well with his ideas, and the synths are very well done. Finally, Kyson’s version is a completely different take with ambience and calming synths being the main focus. Still a great track and an interesting take on the original.
