Clarian – Dinosaurs In Space [Play It Say It]
Clarian’s release Dinosaurs In Space is a mixed bag of good and bad quality tech house and techno. While each track sounds very unique, they tend to lack that “it” factor that makes a track really good. The original mix is bogged down in annoyingly repetitive sounds and samples. While these sounds are in some way cool, the track has too much going on and is honestly a bit stressful to listen to. There really isn’t much of a break from the track’s frenetic vibe, and it doesn’t have enough variety to stay fresh. The Astro Lizard mix is plagued by similar issues. Repetitiveness, annoying sounds, and a general lack of interesting musical ideas. That being said, the percussion and some of the instruments Paul Ritch uses are very unique and interesting so for those interested in the production side of house music, give this a listen. Finally, Paul Ritch does a Cosmic Fossil Mix that helps drag this release back up. While mellow and very much laid back compared to the two tracks before it, this remix has a cool demeanor that allows each instrument in the track to shine while adding nice musical ideas. Each instrument has room to breath and take shape which allows listeners the time to figure out the different elements of the track without being overwhelmed. Skip the first two, listen to the last track.
