Boss Axis – Riviera/Golden Hour (Remixes) [Parquet Recordings]
There’s something for everyone in this remix package of Riviera/Golden Hour. Genres range from techno to D&B with a lot in between. Microtrauma does an epic techno remix featuring the build of a lifetime (think Strobe, but obviously not as incredibly epic). The synths are incredibly well done, the kick is deep and booming and the track grooves really well. Thumbs up for Microtrauma.
Daso also does a really good version. Featuring a heavy bass/synth combo, the track also sounds wonderful through good speakers. I liked the way the pads were paired with the stabbing synths, and the bass-line gives it a good sense of movement and power. Another thumbs up for Daso.
If you’re a fan of minimalistic electronica, Sebastian Boldt & Emka do a great version with vocals. I enjoyed how unaffected and raw the vocals were, and the synth/bass line was also well done. So well done in fact, it could stand on its own. Paired with a few drums and synths, the track grooves very hard. Thumbs up #3.
Twisted Elements produces a nice, ambient, and almost relaxing D&B remix. While not as intense as what you may be used to, this track could be great to listen to in the car, or even just doing some work. The reverb-laden synths and instruments give the track a very space-age feel and the pairing with the percussion was great. One thumb up.
Finally, Pen Perry’s remix is also well done and the synths and bass in this version may be the best in the release. The track has a faster tempo which keeps the energy up, and the producing is absolutely top notch. Two emphatic thumbs up.
