The Aston Shuffle – Tear It Down (NEW_ID Remix) [Axtone Records]
This new uplifting remix done by NEW_ID is a return to well-done progressive house of old. Combining catchy vocals with melodically strong synth leads supported by harmonizing rhythmic synths, this track is not only fun to listen to on the way to the beach, but is an all-around great listen for any progressive house fans. That being said, the remix carries quite a few similarities to the Aston Shuffle original. The synths sound quite similar and to be completely honest, The Aston Shuffle’s version is mixed better. NEW_ID’s version is melodically strong, but sometimes the mixing makes it sound muddy and a bit off which can detract from the overall quality of the song. Along the lines of similarities, I would say NEW_ID’s version makes slight alterations to the melody but overall follows a very similar format to The Aston Shuffle’s original. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t have a sound that’s unique enough for me to call it exemplary. I also like how the original focuses more on the main vocals which are very well done and deserve their space to breath. NEW_ID tends to muddle the vocals a bit as well and seem to have added a few effects that take away from the clarity and tone of the vocals. That being said, it’s still a very enjoyable track so give it a listen and tell us what you think!
