Pezzner, Amina – One Up (Drop of Fears) [Systematic Recordings]
I’m not sure how to feel about this release. In some ways, it is entirely annoying as the vocals sound so awful in most of these remixes. Not only is the original vocal part just not very interesting or nice to listen to, but most of these remixes try to implement a trippy form of tech or deep house that does not go well with the vocals themselves. That is, until you get to Gorge’s remix. It grooves so incredibly hard and the bass underneath gives it a nice push of energy. The synths have a very well-done tone and are smooth and soft which gives the track a nice depth as well. Pezzner’s version is also well done with a much slower pace, and a nice synth/bass combination melody. If anything, skip all of the songs in this release except Gorge’s remix. Pezzner’s is also good, but the rest are quite forgettable.
