Alesso – Tear The Roof Up [Refune Records]
So one of the tracks from Alesso’s new album has dropped on Refune and to be completely honest, it lacks severely in any kind of imagination. As is so common with most electro house from big name artists, the tracks are well produced but tend to not serve any purpose other than tunes for DJ sets in big arenas. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because I think the way a DJ builds a set can redeem some of the most generic of tracks, but in terms of music you need in your library, this isn’t one. The buildup is been-there-done-that arpeggios and the vocals are kind of annoying to listen to due to how incredibly vapid they are. The synths are interesting and have a really cool effect on them, but the track just isn’t mixed for anything besides a club.
On the other hand, in a larger setting this track wouldn’t be half bad. The buildup is intense and drawn-out in the best way possible. It adds a lot of tension, and makes the very well-produced drop even more satisfying. As with most EDM, when you play it in the right setting it can be a lot of fun. While Tear The Roof Up is well produced and would be good in a DJ set, listening to it anywhere else just doesn’t seem right.
